GEWA music was founded in 1925 by Georg Walther in Adorf, Vogtland. Georg Walther and a small team of violin makers from the region concentrated on the construction and sale of specially handcrafted instruments and, a short time later, the corresponding cases.

For years, the company's creed was "Everything but a socket". The focus at GEWA music was on the development, manufacture and distribution of acoustic musical instruments and their accessories, which could be developed there and manufactured in the company's own production facilities due to the outstanding location conditions in Adorf, Vogtland.

Through personal relations of the GEWA management to a European development company, which has been developing specific circuits or chips especially for "digital sound generation" with a highly professional team of engineers for years, GEWA was concerned with entering the "digital world". Initial ideas of production in Asia were rejected due to the technical requirements and GEWA's high quality standards.

Once again, it was the Vogtland location that led to a development and manufacturing process that was new in the music industry. The Vogtland, today part of the European No.1 cluster for micro- & nanoelectronics, proved to be the right choice to realise the project "Digital Pianos - Made in Germany".

During the "Space Race" in the 1950s and 1960s, companies from the region had helped the Soviet Union at the time to develop the necessary technology to launch the first satellite into orbit. After the reunification of Germany in the early 1990s, these companies reoriented themselves; many internationally active companies very quickly took advantage of the abundant reservoir of high-calibre specialists in this field. Basic research, state-of-the-art application and manufacturing technologies, and production lines at the most diverse levels have found their home here. More than 100,000 people are involved. - see "silicon saxony.de".

Several internationally renowned research institutes have settled in the Vogtland and neighbouring regions. This has opened up new opportunities for cooperation in a wide variety of fields and enabled GEWA to enter the field of digital sound production in a sustainable way.
